Rishikesh on one hand is one of the most visited religious places in India. On other hand, it is an ultimate destination for Adventure Sports. Some call it the ‘Adventure Capital of India’. It is a weekend getaway mainly for the people from nearby places in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Located in the beautiful state of Uttarakhand, Rishikesh offers a wide range of adventure activities.

(1) Camping

You may have wished to stay at a camp. Rishikesh offers a lot of camp themes you can choose from. Some of the camp providers also provide luxury camps with all facilities. (2) Bungee Jumping

You may have heard a lot about Bungee Jumping. Rishikesh is one of the few locations in India which offers this Adventure. It is one of the most dangerous Adventure Sports in Rishikesh one can do. In this Activity, you legs are tied to flexible rubber cords at a fixed location and you need to jump into the valley to upto 80-90 m from your position. Minimum Weight of the person doing this activity should be 35 kg and the maximum should be 110 kg. Person with over 12 yrs of age can only perform this activity. There are professionals from New Zealand who handles these activities. You also get a Certificate of ‘Dare to Jump’ for your performance. You can also collect your Photographs and Video of Bungee Jump.

(3) Flying Fox

This activity is done by harnessing you to the wire and move down due to gravity upto 7 m above the River Ganges. You will be pulled back after the jump is complete. Normally this activity is done by 3 persons at a time. However you can also perform it alone by paying extra charges. Minimum Weight of the person doing this activity should be 20 kg and the maximum should be 130 kg. You will get the ‘Dare to Jump’ Certificate for this activity as well. Also, you can buy your Photographs and Videos.

Charges : Rs.1700 – Rs.3000

(4) River Rafting

River Rafting is the most popular adventure of Rishikesh. Every year, Rishikesh attracts a large number of tourists for River Rafting. This activity is full of excitement and thrill. You need be more than 12 yrs to do this activity. All the rafters are provided with a short 5 minutes of training before they start their adventure. This unique adventure is not that dangerous as it looks, if you follow all the safety guidelines. Your Guide will tell you when to stop & when to lean down. You will be provided with safety jackets to avoid any mishap even if you fall into the river.

There are some places where the water is calm, your guide will tell you to get down into the water if you want. You will be given a rope which you need to keep holding while you are in the river. There will be a dry bag in the raft, where you can keep your mobile phones and use them for taking pictures when your guide tells you to. It is an ultimate adventure everyone should try!

(5) Giant Swing

In this activity you need to jump from the same Bungee Platform. However, in Giant Swing a harness is fixed to your chest and a seat , both of which are connected to a wire rope. After you jump, you will move like a pendulum and the experience is thrilling ! This activity can be done individually or with 2 people together. You can also buy the Photographs and Video of your Jump. Minimum Weight of the person doing this activity should be 20 kg and the maximum should be 130 kg. Anyone over 12 yrs can do this activity.

(6) Cliff Jumping

In this activity you find a perfect cliff for yourself and jump into the river. This activity can be done while Rafting down the river. You can ask your guide to take a hault somewhere for cliff jumping. Normally they will find any cliff of about 30-40 m above the river level.

(7) Trekking

Recently, Rishikesh has developed into a trekking destination because of its location of the foothills of Himalayas. There are variety of trekking options available for the adventure lovers. The trekking options depend upon the distance and the theme you choose. Some of the trekking options are Waterfalls Trekking, Kunjapuri Trekking, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple Trekking, Jhilmil Gufa Trekking etc. You can start a trek by yourself or can talk to any Adventure Tour Office.

(8) Rock Climbing

Due to the presence of tall Himalayan ranges in Rishikesh, it is one of the preferred location for trekking. In this activity, you need to climb on a mountain peak by yourself. However, you are tied to all kind of safety harnesses to avoid any mishap. You will be a bit exhausted after completing Rock Climbing as it is a tiring but thrilling adventure.

(9) Rappelling

Rapelling is just opposite to Rock Climbing. Your waist is being tied to same harness as in Rock Climbing. However, in Rappelling you need to get down from a Mountain Peak. It is comparatively easier than Rock Climbing and does not require that much power.

(10) Paintball

  3. These seems to be really amazing places for adventure in India. Gone to Rishikesh last year enjoyed a lot in the adventure sports in India. Recently also visited Neemrana fort palace as well where I experience the thrill of zip lining.

Whenever I gave a visit to Rishikesh, I make sure that I visit Rishikesh to do Zip lining which I think is conducted by some company Flying Fox.
