       Pan Card is a card issued by the Income Tax Department of India. This card may be used in a lot of financial and other transactions by an Indian Citizen.

Step 1 : Open the NSDL Website (https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/form49Adsc.html)

Step 2 : Read all the Guidelines Carefully . You can also convert the text in Hindi to read in Hindi Language. Scroll till the bottom of the Page and you will be able to Select the Category of the Applicant.

Step 3 : Select the Category of Applicant from the Drop Down Menu and click on Select

Step 4 : Read and Fill the Complete Form Carefully.  Finally, after filling up the form, a fee of Rs.107 has to be paid by Demand Draft/Cheque/Credit or Debit Card/Net Banking. (Note: Demand draft / cheque shall be in favour of ‘NSDL – PAN’ payable at Mumbai)

If the Applicant wants to go for Paperless PAN Application for New PAN Card, he/she may select YES wherein a Digital Signature is Required. Otherwise select NO (For Physical Submission of the Hard Copies of the Documents).

In Paperless PAN Application, you can Upload your Photo, Signature & Documents Online and there is no need for Physical Submission of the Documents & the New PAN Card Application process would end here.

Applicants willing to submit Hard Copies of the Documents may proceed with Step no.5.

Step 5 : You will now get an Acknowledgement Form with a 16 Digit Acknowledgement Number. Take a printout of this Acknowledgement Form. For e.g : If your Acknowledgement Number is 10997693003. Then the heading on the envelope should be ” Application for PAN CHANGE REQUEST – 10997693003

Step 6 : Paste 2 Recent Photographs of the Applicant in this Acknowledgement Form in the space provided.  Put your Signature in the Box.

Step 7 : Enclose your Demand Draft or Cheque (If you did not pay Pay Online), Acknowledgement Form and the self attested Documents Mentioned earlier in the form in an Envelope.

Step 8 : Heading on the Envelope should be ” Application for PAN – (Your Acknowledgement Number) “

Step 9 : Post this Envelope to the Physical Address of NSDL :

Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411016.

Step 10 : Make sure that the Envelope with your Application and Supporting Documents should reach NSDL Address within 15 days after getting the Acknowledgement.

Your Pan Application will be sent for processing as soon NSDL receives it. You will get an e-mail regarding the same on your E-mail Address. You must have noticed that this process to apply Pan Card Online is easy & hassle free.

  3. I have serious confusions about this article after reading it. Please clarify what do you mean by “Applying online” when you are saying about sending to a Physical address in the end?

    Exactly what do I need to do in order to apply for PAN card ONLINE as an individual?

    Don’t get confused. Actually the Procedure is partially online i.e. Filling up the form and the processing of the payment. However, you need to send the documents along with your form to the address mentioned even if you applied by the online procedure.

    ID Card of Government University will not be accepted. Only the documents mentioned below can be accepted.

    ID Proof Documents for PAN Card

    1.Indian Passport
    2.Aadhaar Card
    3.Driving License
    4.Voter ID/Election Card
    5.Certificate of Identity in original signed by M.P.,/ MLA/ Municipal Councillor/ Gazetted Officer (As Per Annexure-A) *Original copy
    Ration Card having photograph of the Applicant
    6.Arm’s License
    7.Photo Id Card (Central / State Government, Public Sector Undertaking-PSU)
    8.Pensioner Card having photograph of the Applicant
    9.Central Government Health Scheme Card or Ex-service men Contributory Heath Scheme Photo Card
    10.Bank Certificate in original on letter head from the Branch containing the duly attested Photograph and Bank Account Number of the Applicant.

    There is no such procedure which is completely online.

    last year i applied for PAN CARD through an agent…i have got SMS and MAIL regarding PANCARD number….they have given me a number as a pan card number….SMS stated that pancard is sent through courier…but still i didnt get…its going to be one year almost…what can i do now? is there a way to get the pan card now?

    If you have the PAN Number, you can reprint your PAN by submitted a new application for ‘Reprint of PAN’. Nowadays, they just need your Aadhaar Card and nothing else as a proof.

    Yes, you can show your pan acknowledgement to your company. This acts as a proof that you have applied for your PAN. When you get your PAN, then you can submit the photostat copy of your PAN Card.

    Will i encounter any issues if i have an adhar card but no pan card?

  22. I have applied for pan card throught an agency. It has been 15 days now but still i have not got any message regarding the pan number. The online status is showing record not found. The agency is saying that the pan card is under process. It has been too long and still no update. What should i do next?

  23. I had aplied for PAN card online and chosen Aadhar based e-sign as an option which states that no phyical documentation needs to be sent through post.

    When I am checking my PAN card status, it is showing ‘Under Process’.
    My acknowledgement form already have used my photo from my Aadhar details. Do you think that I still needs to send the required documents through post?
