Link your Aadhar with instantly generated e-PAN

Link your Aadhar with instantly generated e-PAN

If you could not link your PAN with Aadhaar, don’t panic. You can link it today only instantly through e-PAN now, sitting in the comfort of your home.

The income tax department has introduced the facility of e-PAN to the users. This facility will be made available to them on a real-time basis.

This step will help in reducing the interaction with the department. Moreover, it is also aimed at helping taxpayers generate the permanent account number (PAN) without any problem

The department has offered this facility without charging any amount. You can log onto the income tax portal anytime, to generate this unique e-PAN.

The service is available only for resident individual taxpayers. It means, the Hindu undivided family (HUF), various firms, trusts and companies can not avail the benefits of the service. Moreover, this service of the IT department is open for a limited period. It is designed on first-come, first-served basis for those taxpayers who already hold valid Aadhar cards.

Under the new system, you will not need to submit any documents. The e-PAN will be generated using the details available in Aadhaar. You just need to ensure that the details are properly updated. It is necessary because the e-KYC will be done using the Aadhaar database only.

Under the process when the e-KYC will be successfully generated based on the individual Aadhaar OTP, then the process of e-PAN application will be initiated.

All it needed will be a scanned copy of your signature on a white paper. The proper specifications are given on the income tax website.

After filing the application, an acknowledgement number will be generated, which will be in 15-digits. This generated number will be sent to the individuals’ mobile number or email address, whichever is mentioned in the application form.

It has been happened only due to use of the technology and digitalization being adopted by the government in the various tax departments. The system of digitalization has now resulted in convenient and paperless smoothness with taxpayers. A number of other initiatives, to smoothen the system are on the cards in the coming days. this will make the life of taxpayers easy for managing their taxable income, claims the IT department.

Link Aadhaar and PAN before June 30 or pay Rs.5000 penalty

Link Aadhaar and PAN before June 30 or pay Rs.5000 penalty

It is compulsory to link your PAN with Aadhaar Card. Even Supreme Court has not objected to it. Do it before June 30, 2018, to avail of the benefits. If you do not, you need to know about the complications it may bring to you.

At present, there is no penalty for not linking the PAN with your Aadhaar card, but you will not be able to do transactions via IT portal or avail a lot of services where linking is required. However, the IT department could treat you a violator of their terms and conditions, and could suitably penalize you. It could be minimum Rs.5,000 if you do not submit your ITR by July 31st.

As per a Government of India notification, “Every person who has been allotted permanent account number as on the 1st day of July 2017, and who in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 139AA is required to intimate his Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number to the Principal Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or Director General of Income-tax (Systems) or the person authorised by the said authorities.”

The Supreme Court in an interim judgement has already stated that those who possess Aadhaar card must link their existing PAN cards with Aadhaar. It is still in the process of concluding the hearing on the aadhaar and PAN cards linkage etc, through its 5-judges bench.

In our country, a PAN card is treated as a prerequisite for paying taxes. PAN is a valid KYC requirement for the individual bank accounts, linking the Aadhaar with PAN will automatically link an individual’s Aadhaar with his/her bank accounts. This will make it easier for the Income Tax Department to track everyone’s transactions, and the tax they should be paying.

To finance an illegal activity such as drug trafficking can be done easily with dubious or unverified identities. If and when a PAN card will be linked to an Aadhaar card, it will altogether eliminate the possibility of these nefarious activities.

Every taxpayer in the country needs a PAN card to file his or her income tax returns(ITR). It has now been made mandatory to provide Aadhaar Card details too while filing IT returns. Aadhaar and PAN card will enable individuals to file their returns on the portal of the income tax department. If you do not link your Aadhar card with your PAN, you would not be able to file online ITR. On the other hand, If you have done it already, you are not required to send acknowledgements to the IT department.

If you have already updated your PAN number with your bank account, and possess an aadhar card too, there is no way you would be exempted to link with the income tax department too. Even if, you have lesser income than the taxable income limit. Sometimes, at banks or other places, they deduct your TDS at the source. In this case, you will not be entitled to a refund of this TDS amount.

However, you can claim this refund, if you file your income tax returns via a portal or otherwise because it can validate your claim. As you are aware anytime from now, if and when you file your income tax returns, you will have to provide your Aadhar number to the IT department and hence both Aadhar and PAN are linked

At present, there is no penalty for not linking the PAN with your aadhar card, but you will not be able to do transactions via IT portal or avail a lot of services where linking is required. The department could treat you a violator of their terms and conditions, and could suitably penalize you.

Link your PAN with Aadhaar by June 30 2018, warns IT department

Link your PAN with Aadhaar by June 30, warns IT department

Now you will need to link Aadhaar and PAN to be able to process your annual income tax returns of the current year. The IT department says it should be done till June 30, or you will be treated as a violator of IT return and it won’t be processed.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has clarified that linking of PAN card and Aadhaar number is a prerequisite for filing ITR. Without it, ITR will not be treated as filed.

It has been made compulsory to link it by financial year end by the taxation department earlier. Under the modified order, the deadline has been revised now to June 30, 2018.

Even in the year 2017, the linking of Pan and Aadhaar Card was told to be applicable on July 1 2017. At that time, the people who filed their income tax returns before July 1, 2017 the deadline for them was again extended to March 31, 2018. It now stands extended to June 30, 2018.

The department says that the linkage is being done as per the provisions of the law. It is mentioned in the section 139 AA (2) of the IT Act that every person having PAN as on July 1, 2017, and eligible to obtain Aadhaar, must intimate his or her Aadhaar number to the tax authorities. There is no exception of the provision to anyone.

The last date order from the IT department has come in the wake of the apex court direction. It has directed the department for the extension of the March 31 deadline for this linkage of Aadhaar number with various services. The Supreme Court says that the deadline of the directive should be raised since its final judgment is given on the issue of aadhar and PAN.

Experts believe that no one will be able to file ITR this year, without linking the two. CBDT circular emphatically mentions it to do by June 30, 2018. It is also mandatory to quote your Aadhaar number in the ITR form on the dotted lines.

Please note that Non-resident Indians (NRI) are not covered in the ambit of linking Aadhaar and PAN card.

LRS tightens rules for sending money abroad for investment or kid’s studies

PAN is now mandatory to send money abroad for kids studies or investing

LRS has set new rules and regulations on force to ensure all the cash being sent abroad strictly follow the tax guidelines within a prescribed limit. If you are planning on investing in properties, shares in different countries or even sending cash to your kid studying abroad, you need to have a PAN card to be able to do so. You can’t exceed a set limit for sending money on an annual basis. This new move by the government is to assure that the cash being transferred to a different country is regularized in terms of tax. The move shall also ensure that the sender adheres to the limit prescribed under the new regulation.

The rules listed by RBI (Reserve Bank of India) have been tightened recently in terms of remitting money to another country with regards to LRS or Liberalized Remittance Scheme. Under the scheme, PAN card has been listed as a mandatory inclusion for anyone opting to send cash to any other country. Before the inclusion of this new rule, PAN wasn’t necessary for transactions made via current account till a limit of $25,000.

LRS is a scheme that is used by Indian residents to invest in international properties and stocks or sending money to children studying in other countries. LRS was introduced in the year 2004. A major faction of Indian parents uses this scheme to send money to their children for school/college fees or help with the expenses for living abroad.

For Indian residents interested in the stock market, LRS is an efficient scheme to help them buy some stocks in high-ranking foreign companies as per their interest which might include names such as Apple, Google, Amazon, etc. Apart from investing in stocks, people can also buy properties in the foreign land. LRS allows you the right to send or invest money to any one in any country.

PAN card was made mandatory this year by Central Bank for all the transactions, given the fact that during the month of January, many Indian Businessmen along with Bollywood celebrities and diamond merchants invested in funds abroad by betting on various stocks, properties which breached the limit specified under the LRS scheme.

The rule under LRS allows the Indian individuals to purchase stocks or properties abroad. However, it was being used to invest in speculative bets over instruments that include derivatives. The annual limit for LRS after making PAN card mandatory has been increased from the prior $1,25,000 to the updated $2,50,000.
