There is lot phenomenon which occurs around us which sometimes persuade to believe in some supernatural power’s existence and the mankind calls it the act of – God. There are certain sights which do not have any scientific reasoning or cannot be proven with logical answering. Nature has so many surprises stored for us even today which is unexplored and unanswered. One of the unanswered questions is – Is it the faith which makes us works towards that goal or is it the belief in the “Almighty” which brings in the result.
The Chilkur Balaji Temple
An ancient Hindu temple on the banks of Osman Sagar in Hyderabad, which is famous for having no “hundi” or the “donation box”; famous for “right to stay out of government control”; and one of the temples known for not having a “green channel” or the VIPs entry – Chilkur Balaji Temple. The temple was built half a millennium ago has Lord Venkateswara as the deity and is just 45 kms from Hyderabad.
Today there are about 75000, to one lakh devotees who visit this temple every week to pray. It was built during the Akkanna and Madanna era, who were the uncles of Bhakta Ramdas. It is believed that Sri Balaji Venkateswara, the Pratyaksha Daiva in Kaliyuga, stays here and pours blessings on his devotees.
The Visa Temple
Well, these few things are not what this temple is famed for; it has a totally different reason for its popularity. It is believed that in 1980’s few students aspiring for US Visa were rejected at the Visa interview at the Chennai US Visa consulate. They then prayed in this temple and got the visa stamped. The mouth publicity of this incident slowly became viral and people started visiting the temple with the same desire.
The aspirants in this part of the country for the US, is quite high, due to the presence of students and professionals aspiring for higher studies or professional opportunities. They started throwing themselves for the blessings in the form of clearing the “US Visa Interview” and surprisingly they even got the same. Since then the temple got its new name – “The Visa Temple”!
It is a regular practice now that anyone who is an aspirant will visit the temple just two-three days before the scheduled interview and will pray to Lord Venkateswara and also take three “Pradakshina” or rounds of the temple and vow that if the interview is cleared he will complete another 108 Pradakshina. And to best of everybody’s knowledge people come back for the 108 rounds, after the interview or you may put it this way – After they get the Visa Stamped!
Just imagine people who visit the temple take visa and go to the USA for studying Science and Technology, IT industry or work there on these sophisticated fields which are purely based on scientific reasoning and logics. But it is quite ironical that they aspire and believe to get there following a gateway which runs through this “Visa Temple” which does not have any such reasoning or logical. Here comes the question then – Faith or Belief?
