Australia slump to lowest ICC ODI Ranking in 34 years

This year Australian Cricket Team is dumped to the sixth position, which is its lowest ODI ranking in 34 years. It was on sixth position earlier in the year 1984. Pakistani team has substituted it on the fifth slot. England, India, South Africa and New Zealand are those which are there on the top 4 spots.

The Australian team is busy challenging England in a five-match ODI series. They have already tasted two defeats in their first two encounters. As a result, Australia has now merely 102 rating points. Beginning from this summer, they have already lost 13 out of their 15 one day internationals. They have managed to win just two, out of 10 matches.

At Cardiff, the Aussies were playing the second ODI and it looked like an impossible target of 343. In the match, Shaun Marsh’s strategy was displayed brilliantly with the scoring of a magnificent 131. Despite his appreciable innings, it wasn’t sufficient for Australia to register a win. After the match, they expressed hope of something unexpected when they had come up with a statement which ascribed them regretting that they just weren’t good enough. The loss of wickets at key times in the innings was bad and they couldn’t build big partnerships.

The official spokesperson said that there is always a scope to improve and we’re working for the betterment, but still a lot needs to be done.

According to latest ICC one-day international rankings England is on top at 124 points, while India is not far behind at 122. Ireland- 38, Scotland- 33, United Arab Emirates-18 are competing on the lowest slots.

It is a regular practice that after every ODI match, involved teams receive certain points, which are based on a mathematical formula. Total points are then divided by a number of matches. That way a rating is calculated and all the teams are ranked in the order of rating.
