OnePlus 6 rolls out OxygenOS 5.1.7 Update

OnePlus– the top Chinese phone maker has announced the rollout of the OxygenOS 5.1.7 OTA update and fixed a bug on the OnePlus 6.

This update aims at correcting the scheduled setting issue for Do Not Disturb (DND) setting of the phone. It has brought an updated bootloader for system security enhancement and offers general bug fixes and improvements.

But it has a rider. The particular update is not to be released on Indian units. It is reported that OxygenOS 5.1.6, has a stability issue for users here. Though OxygenOS 5.1.8 – with a fix and all 5.1.7 features – will be rolled out next week.

The company has announced that the OTA update will be issued slowly to the users. Initially, it will reach a small percentage of users but later, a broader rollout is to follow in the coming days. It is estimated that the file size of the update will be kept at around 64 MB.

The company has updated to the clients that the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update had caused stability issues for users in India, and the update rollout had been paused. It is working on the fix, as per the logs received from affected users. It also explains that the OxygenOS 5.1.8 update, which is planned to release next week will contain the fix and some other features.

A vulnerability on the famous OnePlus 6 bootloader was found in various part of the world. The bug could let an attacker boot a modified firmware image without unlocking the bootloader. This looks like a security risk, as anyone with an access to a OnePlus 6 cellphone could bypass bootloader protections and gain root access to the device.

This bug was discovered by a company, Edge Security initially. At that time, OnePlus had promised to fix the issue in an upcoming software update. The OxygenOS 5.1.7 OTA update will correct the issue by fixing the bootloader to prevent the loading of the firmware image without unlocking the bootloader.
