Nubra Valley is definitely a must visit place on your trip to Ladakh. Diskit is the capital of Nubra and is located at a distance of 160 km from Leh. There are a few places to visit in and around Nubra Valley including the Diskit Monastery, Maitreya Buddha, Panamik Village, Hunder Sand Dunes and a few more. Reaching Nubra Valley from Leh by road can take you around 5 to 6 hours depending upon the route you follow. Some other factors like traffic and road condition can also add to the time. By now you must be wondering how to reach from Leh to Nubra Valley by Road. Well, in this article we will be telling you about all the road routes from Leh to Nubra Valley and the best route according to us.

Road Routes from Leh to Nubra Valley 

Route 1 : Leh – Shey – Thiksey – Hemis – Sakti – Khalsar – Lakzung – Panamik – Nubra Valley

If you want to cover Shey Monastery, Thiksey Monastery and Hemis Monastery on the way to Nubra Valley, you can take this route. Although it is 39 km longer than the usual route, but if you want to cover the above mentioned monasteries, this route would suit you the most. The road distance from Leh to Nubra Valley by this route is 199 km and it would you take around 5:30 to 6 hours to reach Nubra Valley by this road route.

Best Road Route from Leh to Nubra Valley

Route 2 : Leh – North Pullu – Khardung – Khalsar – Lakzung – Panamik – Nubra Valley 

All of you travelling from Leh to Nubra Valley, this is the shortest and most convenient route. The road distance from Leh to Nubra Valley by this route(Via Khardung La) is 160 km and it would take you around 5-5:30 hours to reach Nubra Valley. On my visit to Nubra Valley I followed this route and was quite excited as we passed through the highest motorable road of the World i.e., Khardung La.

Note : Don’t forget to get the Inner Line Permit for your visit to Nubra Valley. On my visit to Nubra Valley by the second route, we were asked for the photostat copies of the Inner Line permit at North Pullu and South Pullu check post.
