Pangong Lake, also called as Pangong Tso one of the most beautiful lakes in India. It is situated in the Himalayas and stretches for about 134 km. It extends from India to China and is situated at a height of 4350 m. It is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist attractions of India. Distance between Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake by road is 274 km. Reaching Pangong Lake from Nubra Valley by road can take you around 8-12 hours depending upon the route you take. Road Routes from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake
Route 1 : Nubra Valley – Khalsar – Leh – Hemis – Tangtse – Lukung – Pangong Tso
If you are looking to return to or pass through Leh, you can take this route to reach Pangong Lake. It is 109 km longer than the usual route but if you want to cover Shey, Hemis and Thiksey Monastery, you can take this route. Distance between Nubra Valley to Pangong lake by this route is 383 km and it will take you around 10-12 hours to reach Pangong Lake by this route. A lot of cab drivers might suggest you this route.

Best Road Route from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake
Route 2 : Nubra Valley – Khalsar – Durbuk – Tangtse – Lukung – Pangong Tso
This is the shorter of the two routes. People who don’t want to go through Leh and want to save some time can follow this route. Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake by this route is 274 km and it will take you 7:30 – 8 hours. Although this route is not suggested by a few people, you can still follow this route as it is a lot shorter. Just remember to ask the fellow cab driver about the current condition of this road and then proceed.

Note : Don’t forget to get the Inner Line Permit for your visit to Pangong Lake. On my visit to Pangong lake by the second route, we were asked for the photostat copies of the Inner Line permit at Tangtse check post.
