Mathura is a popular religious city in the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located about 50 km north of Agra, and 145 km south-east of Delhi; about 11 km from Vrindavan, and 22 km from Govardhan. Now that you are planning to visit Mathura, you might be looking for the best road route to reach Mathura from Delhi. Best Road Route from Delhi to Mathura

There can be 2 common Road routes when you visit Mathura from Delhi.

Route 1 : Delhi – Faridabad – Palwal – Hodal – Kosi Kalan – Mathura (NH-2)

This is the National Nighway-2 (NH-2) route that starts from Delhi to Kolkata. This road has been in existence from a long time. Before the Yamuna Expressway was built, everyone used to follow this route to reach Mathura from Delhi. Although anyone can take this route but this route is best suited for people who stay in and around the areas of Ashram, New Friends Colony, Sarita Vihar, Jasola, Mohan Estate, Tughlaqabad, Badarpur, Faridabad etc. Also, people who do not want to get onto Yamuna Expressway at all can take this route. Though, this route is shorter than that other one but due to heavy traffic it might take more time if you choose this route (specially in the peak hours). If you follow this route, you just need to move straight from Badarpur Border towards Faridabad till you reach Mathura.

Best Road Route from Delhi to Mathura

Route 2 : Delhi – Noida – Greater Noida to Mathura Via Yamuna Expressway

Although anyone can take this route but this route is best suited for people who stay in and around the areas of Ghaziabad, Noida & Greater Noida. If you follow this route, you need to first reach Greater Noida from Delhi and then get onto Yamuna Expressway and drive for 109 km to reach Mathura Exit. From Mathura Exit you need to drive on Mathura-Hathras road for 16 km to reach Mathura. It is undoubtedly the quickest and best road route from Delhi to Mathura. 

Distance from Mathura : 162 km

Important Note : If you are planning to visit Mathura in Winters, especially in the months of December and January, you are advised not to take Route 2 as while following this route you need to get onto Yamuna Expressway. Due to heavy fog and low visibility, Yamuna Expressway gets really dangerous to drive in Winters. In past there have been a lot of extremely dangerous accidents on Yamuna Expressway in Winters. So, in winters it is highly advised take the NH-2 route only i.e., Route 1 to reach Mathura from Delhi.
