Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is a beautiful place located in Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad. The park is also known as Deer Park (as upto 400 deer roam around the park fearlessly) and Mahavir Harina Vanasthali Wildlife Park. In in the past the park was the property of the Nizam of Hyderabad, now it is managed by the Forest Department of Telangana.

The topography of park supports dry deciduous forests, grasslands, scrub land, rocky landscapes and tropical forests. The park is spread over about 3,758 acres.
History
The national park was once the private ‘Shikargarh’ or hunting ground for the 2500th birth anniversary of the great Jain saint, Lord Mahavir. In 1994 the park was declared as a an official National Park.
The National Park
The park has an undulating terrain of 189 hectares. The vegetation ranges from dry deciduous to grasslands. The most important charm of this park is the endangered blackbucks. There are many animals and birds other than blackbucks such as cheetah, mongoose, monitor lizards, porcupines, short toed eagles etc.

The park also offers a Safari (bus ride) to make our visit memorable. There is a butterfly garden also at the park which is an extremely beautiful section.
The animals can be viewed through view sheds and viewing towers.
Major flora
The flora includes dry deciduous forest with scrub jungle and grasslands. Many prominent and exotic plant species such as Rosewood, sandalwood, teak, acacia etc stands at the park.
Major fauna
Panther, blackbuck, wild boar, porcupines, peacock, monitor lizard, partridges, quails, doves, pond herons, kingfisher, kites, vultures, mongoose, woodpecker etc. There are 30 species of reptiles and over 120 species of birds.

There is also an exhibition hall where you can learn more about wildlife conservation. An audio-visual education on n vary n vary nature and wildlife is also offered by the forest n department which is very well supported by an informative nature library.

Environment education centre imparts nature education and also provides joyous nature trails, camping trips, safari drives and watching aquatic life at play.
Location
The Deer Park is located at the outskirts of Hyderabad (15 kilometres from the city) in Vanasthalipuram, Vijayawada Road. It is easily accessible from the city.
How to Reach ?
Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is well connected to Hyderabad airport (nearest airport) and Hyderabad railway station (nearest station) by road network.
The place is also very easily accessible from all major cities and states of the country. Number of local buses, and cabs are operating to and from the place.

For Adults : Rs.20 per person
For Children : Rs.15 per person
(Additional charges will apply if you wish to enter the park in a safari vehicle)
Timings
The park is open on all days of the week except Mondays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
