The Railway Recruitment Board conducts Non-Technical Popular Categories Exam to recruit Goods guard, Commercial  Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, Traffic assistance, Assistance Station Master etc. through all over India. If an aspirant has prepared well, then it is not tough to crack the RRB NTPC exam. There are different roles and responsibilities for RRB Non-Technical Popular Categories. There are various types of posts in the Railway Department for undergraduate and graduate students. As the post are different, so is the salary structure, promotion policies and allowances.

Salary of the RRB NTPC employees

The pay level is as per the 7th Pay Matrix Table for Employees of the Government. There are two dimensions to the table. Under the horizontal column, every level corresponds to a functional role in the hierarchy, where the numbers are assigned from 1 to 18. The vertical column of every level show pay progression at that level. The different pay scale and vacancies for both undergraduate and graduate posts of RRB NTPC are given below:

There are different allowances for RRB NTPC Undergraduate and Graduate post. Apart from the basic pay, there are several other benefits and allowances. These allowances vary as per the various official rules of the different Government departments where the candidates are posted. Some of these allowances are:

  • Dearness Allowance (DA)
  • Transport Allowance (TA)
  • Medical Benefits
  • Pension Scheme
  • Other Special Allowance
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA)

The House Rent Allowance of all Government employees is maintained as per specific criteria. All the job positions offered through RRB NTPC follows the same criteria.

  • The category of cities “X” where the population is greater than equal to fifty lakhs, the HRA is 24%.
  • The category of cities “Y” where the population is five to fifty lakhs, the HRA is 16%.
  • The category of cities “Z” where the population is less than five lakhs, the HRA is 8%.

  • No fixed timings of works as it requires flexibility.
4. Senior Clerk cum Typist
  • Responsible for clerical works in different departments
  • Supervising the junior clerks
5. Senior Time Keeper
  • Working in sync with the entire railway network
  • Keeping records of the time for the movements of the train
  • Working in different shifts
6. Junior Account Assistant cum Typist
  • Making accounts related reports
  • Responsible for maintaining accounting records
  • Keeping track of transactions, expenditures, claims, settlements etc.
  • Managing and compiling the budgets as per the rule
  • Providing support to the related administrative task in the accounts department
  • Checking the financial irregularities
7. Commercial Apprentice
  • Supervising in various commercial branches
  • Working under the post of Commercial Supervisor/ Commercial Inspector/ Goods Supervisor/ Parcel Supervisor
8. Station Master
  • Supervising the activities of the assigned railway station
  • In-charge of the assigned railway station
  • Handling passenger issues and easing their problems

RRB NTPC offers different openings for the various railway departments. The Undergraduate and Graduate post has multiple job profiles and accordingly different pay scale.  There are also different growth opportunities in different positions.
