What to do if your Wallet is Lost or Stolen ?

(1) Register FIR

The first thing to do when your Wallet is Lost is to Register an FIR at the nearest Police Station. FIR(First Information Report) should me made as soon as possible. The reason behind this is that you will have a proof that you have lost your purse and the documents in it and you are not liable if someone tries to misuse it. This FIR may also be needed to present when you apply for a duplicate credit card or debit card or any other document.

(2) Block your Credit and Debit Cards

The second thing to do is blocking your Credit and Debit Cards so that no one can misuse them. There are a lot of cases of people telling about their Credit Cards being stolen and misused. So, even if someone misuses it immediately you are not liable for it because you may have already filed an FIR. These days many Credit and Debit Cards are highly secured and you can not perform any transactions without PIN. However, to avoid any mishap you must Block your Cards as soon as possible.

You can call the Customer Care of your Bank or you can use the Online Portals of your Bank like Netbanking Services to block your Cards.

(3) Re-Apply for Credit and Debit Cards

You must get in touch with your Bank to re-apply for your Lost Debit and Credit Cards. The bank will give you a Form for re-applying for a Debit Card. They may ask you for FIR copy also.The bank may also ask you for a Proof that you are the Account Owner. You can present your Bank Passbook as a Proof. Your Bank Passbook will also act as an Address Proof, for your Credit Card re-issuance. You can keep your Online Statements also with you, in case they are not satisfied, you can present it.

(4) Apply for all Important Documents (PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, Driving License)

(a) PAN CARD

(b) AADHAAR CARD

Once you have your Aadhaar Number with you, you just need to follow the steps mentioned in the link given below to get your Duplicate Aadhaar Card.

(c) VOTER ID CARD

If you don’t remember your EPIC or Voter ID Number, you can visit the link mentioned below to know your EPIC Number by your Personal Details like Name, Email Address/Mobile Number.

Once you have your EPIC Number with you, you just need to visit the nearest Election Office or Tehsil of your City to re-apply for New Voter ID Card.

(d) DRIVING LICENSE

You need to visit the RTO Office in your Jurisdiction and fill the Form of ” INTIMATION OF LOSS, MUTILATION OR DESTRUCTION “. Once you have filled this form you need to submit it with an “Affidavit sworn by the applicant before an executive magistrate or a first class judicial magistrate or a notary public for having lost the driving licence.”

Most of the state have these rules to obtain a Duplicate Driving License. However, it may differ from State to State. You may check at your RTO Office for the Same.

Note : All the Above mentioned documents are issued by Government. You can not apply for a PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or Driving License with a New Number on it. This may be treated as a criminal offense. So, please recover your old numbers and make duplicated in each case.
