Amidst the coronavirus outbreak in the country, self-isolation and work from home has turned out to be the new way of life. People are fixing the most comfortable spot for their home office and spending their work hours with their laptops. However, around 450 million people who happen to be daily wagers, are finding quarantine time of the country to break the neck of their survival.
As the 21-day national lockdown was announced by Prime Minister Narendar Modi, the most vulnerable people of the society, daily wagers and workers at retail outlets, construction sites, transport systems and local food delivery partners and restaurants, are battling their financial crisis. This time is apt for all businesses based in India to collaborate for supporting the weakest section of our society that has been subtly lifting the economy of the country, day and night, through generations, ages, and revolutions.
Leading food delivery giant, Zomato has taken the initiative to provide assistance to daily wagers. Feeding India, the non-profit branch of Zomato, that was acquired in the year 2019, has taken the decision to start “ Feed the Daily Wager”, a new campaign. It has partnered with Gofers for the cause. The food delivery brand will distribute grocery kits that contain rice or wheat flour, 2 kinds of pulses along with a soap bar. This entire kit would last for a family having 5 members for around 1 week.
Zomato collected 1.5 crore Indian rupees within a duration of 17 hours for this initiative. It is now looking to raise an additional amount of 25 crore Indian rupees for the initiative.
