Indian Railways has the 3rd Largest Railway network in the World after United States and China. Millions of people in India book their train ticket every day. If you have completed the process to register on Irctc and to book train ticket in India and for some reason you want to transfer Indian Railway ticket or change name in Indian Railway Ticket, you can do it by reading this article. In this article, we will tell you the process to change your name in train ticket in India.
An important point to note is that not everyone is allowed to change name name in Indian Railway Ticket or Transfer Indian Railway Ticket. There is a certain procedure and conditions to for name change in Indian railway ticket. This rule has been made to prevent the misuse of this facility by railway agents and brokers, as changing name means transfer of authority of travel.

Important Note : Kindly not that this procedure applies for all types of railway tickets booked in India i.e., Online (e-Ticket) and Offline (Counter Ticket).
How to Transfer or Change Name in Indian Railway Ticket ?
Chief Reservation Supervisor of all important stations are authorized by Railway Administration to allow the change of name of a passenger who has a seat or berth reserved in his name only under the following conditions :
(a) If the passenger is a Government Servant, proceeding on duty and authority, makes a request by writing and application at least 24 hours before the departure of the train.
(b) If the passenger makes a request by writing an application at least 24 hours before the departure of the train. The reservation in his name may be transferred to another family member which includes Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Husband and Wife.
(c) If the passengers are students of a renowned educational institution and the Head of the institution makes a request in by writing an application at least 48 hours before the departure of the train. The reservation made in the Student’s name may be transferred to any other student of the same institute.
(d) If the passengers are members of a scheduled marriage party and the Head of marriage party makes a request by writing an application at least 48 hours before the departure of the train. The application should tell that the railway reservation made in the any member’s name who is a part of marriage party be transferred to some other person.
(e) If the passengers are a group or part of National Cadet Corps (NCC) and an officer who is the head of the same NCC group, makes a request by writing an application at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train telling that the reservation made in the any cadet’s name be transferred to any other cadet.
Important Notice :
Such a request can only be granted once. Regarding points no. (c), (d) and (e), if the requests for change in excess of 10% of the total strength of group shall will be granted. It is important to note that the final authority of decision for Change of Name in Indian Railway Ticket rests with CRS (Chief Reservation Supervisor of the concerned railway zone).
